Seasonal Monitoring Technician- UT Grazing Improvement Program

The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food Grazing Improvement Program (GIP) is seeking a seasonal technician to assist in rangeland monitoring related to grazing management in San Juan County, Utah. The successful candidate will travel with GIP staff to the project area during the summer months (May - August) and collect monitoring data, including plant identification, vegetation cover and density, soil stability, and grass production. This is an excellent opportunity for Natural Resources students to gain practical experience!

Requirements

  • Ability to hike long distances and be outside all day in hot or otherwise adverse weather conditions

  • Background knowledge in range or general science

  • Ability and willingness to follow specific methods

  • Ability to travel Monday - Thursday during the summer months, staying on location

  • Plant identification skills (highly desirable)

  • Knowledge of GPS and GIS technologies (desirable, but not required)

Compensation will be $20/hour, plus food per diem and lodging Monday - Wednesday nights. Applications must be received by February 28, 2025 for consideration.
